On June 15, 2017, Jordan. B Karp obtained a defense verdict after a two week trial in Supreme Court, Suffolk County. The case involved allegations that the plaintiff suffered a third degree chemical burn to the upper arm during the course of a right shoulder arthroscopy resulting in a permanent keloid scar with sensory loss and nerve damage. Plaintiff set forth a theory of medical malpractice against the surgeon and also a claim of res ipsa. Plaintiffs’ counsel, during summation, asked the jury for $550,000 in money damages. A jury of 4 men and 2 woman, after deliberating for approximately an hour, returned a unanimous verdict on behalf of the Defendant.
